How Simmy handles the personal information you share with this site.
Who this covers
This policy covers https://simmy.co.za, run by Simmy ("we", "us"). It explains what personal information the site collects, why, how long it is kept, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and, where it applies to visitors in Europe, the GDPR.
What we collect
We keep the list deliberately short. The site collects:
- Your email address, and only if you type it into the mailing-list form and submit it.
- Standard server logs kept by our hosting provider - IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time of the request. These are generated automatically by the act of loading a page and are used to keep the site up and secure.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for your name, phone number, address, date of birth or payment details. The site has no accounts, no logins and no shopping cart. We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not run behavioural tracking of any kind.
Why we use it
- Mailing list: to send you news about releases, videos and live dates. Nothing else. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
- Server logs: to diagnose faults, measure load and defend against abuse.
Who else sees it
Our hosting provider processes server logs on our behalf, and our email provider stores the mailing list on our behalf. Both are bound to use that information only to provide the service to us.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not share it with anyone else except where the law requires it.
Links to other services
Buttons and links on this site take you to Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and our ticketing partners. Once you follow one of those links you are on their service, under their privacy policy, not ours. We have no control over what they collect.
How long we keep it
Mailing-list addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Server logs are kept for a short period by our host, typically no more than 30 days, and then rotated out.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may, at any time:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct it if it is wrong.
- Ask us to delete it.
- Object to us using it, and withdraw consent you gave for the mailing list.
- Complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa if you think we have got it wrong.
Children
The site is not aimed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has submitted their details, write to us and we will delete them.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, and the mailing list sits with a reputable email provider behind their own access controls. No system is perfect, but we take reasonable steps to keep what little we hold safe.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page. Substantial changes affecting the mailing list will also go out by email.
